When working with hundreds or even thousands of records, finding the right information quickly is key to improving day-to-day productivity. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central provides powerful filtering capabilities that allow users to narrow down lists instantly and locate the information they need with just a few clicks.
In this video tutorial, we show you how to use dynamic list filtering in Business Central to search and filter data more efficiently.
How to open the filter pane
In this example, we use the Vendors list, but the same functionality is available throughout Business Central.
You can open the filter pane in two ways:
- Click the Filter (funnel) icon in the upper-right corner of the page.
- Use the keyboard shortcut Shift + F3.
Once opened, the filter pane appears on the left side of the screen, allowing you to define one or more filtering criteria.
Filter by any field
To apply a new filter, click + Filter and select the field you want to filter by.
For example, if you choose the Name field and enter “Romania”, Business Central immediately displays only the vendors whose names contain that value.
This allows you to quickly narrow down the results, regardless of the size of your database.
Combine filters with search
For even more accurate results, you can combine filters with the Search box available on the page.
Using both filtering and search together makes it easy to locate specific records, even in large datasets containing thousands of entries.
When you no longer need the filter, simply remove it to return to the complete list.
Filter directly from a column
Another quick and convenient option is filtering directly from a column header.
Simply click the header of the desired column and select Filter. This approach is ideal when you want to apply a filter without opening the side pane.
Find the information you need in seconds
Whether you choose to use the filter pane or apply filters directly from column headers, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central gives you complete control over your data and helps you navigate large volumes of information with ease.
With its dynamic filtering capabilities, Business Central enables users to work more efficiently, quickly identify the records they need, and simplify everyday business processes.
